Self Awareness and Improvement

Nov 23, 2015 | Inspiration, Self Improvement

One of the many ideas that we promote within our practice is the notion of Personal Growth through self-awareness. Understanding oneself is an idea that is centuries old, however is not taught or practiced in grade schools or at the university level. Once we learn to master our “self” through understanding our thoughts and emotions, we will begin to tap into our true potential.

In our practice, we urge ALL clients to self reflect in & outside our sessions, ultimately with the goal of growth in 4 key areas:

  • Self Awareness
  • Self Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Social Management

The key to positive interpersonal relationships (dating, marriage, friendships), lies in understanding and managing the 4 aspects of “self”. This process starts with “self awareness”, which is defined as the ability to focus on yourself, physically, mentally and emotionally, and consists of the following:

  1. Knowing your background, or “your story” & how it shapes you.
  2. Living without regret. Making peace with the things that have happened in your past will help you be in tune with yourself in the present moment.
  3. Examining past relationships. ALL OF THEM!!!
  4. Understanding your personal SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats) and how these impact you.

This is only a few of the first steps to a stronger self. As you begin to uncover a deeper understanding of yourself, you will begin to master the other 4 key areas of your life, and in turn, lead a happier and more fulfilled existence.

If you are seeking a better understanding of yourself, are struggling with depression, anxiety or relationship issues, or find yourself “stuck”, consider learning more about yourself.
